4b...4what???

I've been meaning to post on this topic for quite some time. **I wrote this when I was really frustrated with my hair***
Has anyone ever noticed the LACK of true, T-R-U-E, TRUE, 4b natural sistas out here? I have, I think I've come across a fellow 4b-er, and then I see curls when their hair is wet. I'm like, what the flip? Do true 4b's not go natural. I know and understand that the thicker your hair is...the less likely one may be to go natural. HONESTLY, my hair is a HANDFUL, and dealing with my 50% shrinkage rate sucks when my goal is to have long healthy hair.

If there are any true 4b's out there, holla at me, because I would love to see and know what the sistas with truly coarse, kinky, non-curly hair are doing to help maintain.

BTW, this is not a blow against sistas with more curly hair. You all are fabulous - love you much. I am however, stating that a 4b sista could use some help.

Peace.

  1. I cannot speak to 4b hair, I have more 3B, 3c hair, BUT question have you tried washing your hair while it is in twists to begin the stretching process from the beginning? I have seen/ heard of this technique also being good for preserving detangling.

  2. I don't normally wash my hair while it's twisted...maybe I should try that to maintain my weekly co-wash but reduce the weekly de-tangling. Thanks!

  4. I am a 4b and natural. The short of the long - wore it in a fro, twists, bantu knots for about 10 years. Got frustrated, permed it again for two years and now I chopped it off back in Sept. and I'm all natural again. I'm always looking for more techniques, styles, adequate products. Feel free to email me or let me know what you find. (My email link is on my profile page.)

When I was transitioning I wore the cinnabun hairdo I found on Youtube. If I would have known other styles back then, I wouldn't have repermed. My hair is super thick and really tight.

@ Libby - We should talk! I just found a great de-tangling method from a youtuber, I've found it's doing wonders for my hair!!!

  6. I know this is waaaay late but I just found your blog. I'm a 4b natural and have been for almost 12 years. I know there are quite a few others on youtube, although Rustic beauty and Sera2544 are the only ones I can think of right now. But you should check out Fotki if you're not on there already because I have found some 4bs that way. If you're interested, I have links to a few 4b fotki albums that I'd be happy to send your way.

  7. Shayo...better late than never!!! Definitely feel free to email me link to some good fotki folks. I'm on there just to view pics, but I find it terribly difficult to find ppl w/ my texture there too - random searches aren't that easy :). Thanks!

  10. @ Amma Mama - I posted about my de-tangling method here: http://sofullsista.blogspot.com/2009/10/detangling-styling-profiling.html#comments

I summarized the method and provided a link to a youTube vid that gives step-by-step instructions...good luck!
